Our Story

About Us

Linda Adkins, founder of HEART 4 US, joined forces with passionate board members to establish an organization rooted in a shared mission: to close the achievement gap, inspire academic excellence, and empower underrepresented communities. Since earning its 501(c)(3) status on November 30, 2009, HEART 4 US has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for students and families. With 16 years of experience as a teacher, counselor, and program developer in public inner-city schools, Ms. Adkins

recognized a critical need: nearly 70% of the students she served lacked the academic foundation to pursue university education. Armed with her Master’s Degree in Education Counseling and Student Services—and K-12 teaching and counseling credentials—she launched HEART 4 US to rewrite the narrative.

The program blends academic intervention, college readiness, parent engagement, and community outreach to create pathways to success. What makes HEART 4 US unique is its heartbeat: the Board of Directors includes former students of Ms. Adkins, now thriving college graduates, who are passionate about giving back.

Together, they’re committed to uplifting students through innovative, culturally relevant approaches, including creative partnerships with School Yard Rap.

By integrating music, storytelling, and history into academic intervention, HEART 4 US doesn’t just teach—it inspires. Through programs that resonate with today’s youth and families, we’re amplifying voices, celebrating diversity, and building a future where every student has the tools to succeed.
